Originally, this plant from the steppes of Central Asia was idientified like the dragon grass. The serpentine shape of the tarragon root led herbalists to believe that it could cure poisonous animal bites. From there came the Greek term drakon (dragon), the Arabic tarkhum (small dragon) and the Latin name of the species: dracunculus (small dragon). It has always been the object of myths and legends. More seriously, we know that Arab doctors used it as early as the year 1000 for its properties.
