Hyssop is native to Southern Europe, North Africa, Western Asia (Near East and Caucasus), it has been naturalized throughout Europe and North America. It is cited in the Middle Ages in the Capitular De Villis, a list of plants recommended for cultivation in the gardens of monasteries under Charlemagne.
